Every unit is converted through a common base unit (metres) using fixed conversion factors, then from metres into the target unit:
Value in metres = Input value × (unit's metre factor)
Result = Value in metres ÷ (target unit's metre factor)
Result = Value in metres ÷ (target unit's metre factor)
